Brief Biography:

I am a Roman Catholic priest and a member of the Dominican Order, and hold a joint appointment as Senior Staff Psychologist with the Personal Counseling Center and as Assistant Professor (with Tenure) in the Department of Psychology. I completed my internship at Harvard University and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Danielsen Institute at Boston University, and previously served as a chaplain at Rutgers University and Harvard Law School.

Area(s) of Expertise:

I have four distinct but related interests at present: contemporary psychoanalytic and psychodynamic theory; psychotherapy integration; the psychology of trauma; and the role that religion and spirituality can play in coping with adverse experience. In the broadest sense, I want to understand how human beings are affected by adversity, and how faith can affect an individual’s healing and growth.

Teaching Philosophy:

Teaching is a vocation and a privilege, and as such entails great responsibility for the students entrusted to one's care and instruction. In my particular case this means, in part, serving as a bridge across apparent divides in the hope that students will come to understand the greater and unifying truth that transcends the antinomies between faith and reason, the sacred and the secular, theory and therapy, and between conscious and unconscious mental life.
